Immunization Requirements for the 2013-2014 School Year!

K.A.R. 28-1-20 defines immunizations required for any individual who attends school or a childcare program operated by a school. There are changes in requirements for immunizations for the upcoming school year. Please check your childs immunizations to make sure they are up to date.

Ages 4 years and Under

DTap                                   4 doses
IPV (polio)                              3 doses

MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)    1 dose
Varicella (chickenpox)                1 dose
Hepatitis A                            2 doses
Hepatitis B                            3 doses
Hib                                      4 doses
Prevnar (pneumococcal conjugate)   4 doses

Kindergarten through Grade 4

DTap                                   5 doses
IPV (polio)                              4 doses
MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)    2 dose
Varicella (chickenpox)                2 dose
Hepatitis B                            3 doses

Grades 5 and 6

DTap                                    5 doses
IPV (polio)                              4 doses
MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)     2 doses

Varicella (chickenpox)                1 dose **
Hepatitis B                            3 doses
**Although 1 dose of varicella is required for school attendance in these grades, 2 doses are recommended.

Grades 7 through 9

Grades10 through 12

Meningitis vaccine at age 11 years and a booster at age 16 are recommended.
This is not a requirement for school, however, most colleges require the immunizations before entrance plus it is better to have your child immunized throughout high school.
HPV Vaccine (a three dose series) at age 11-12 years. This also is not a requirement for school but recommended for both boys and girls.
