The Register of Deeds is an elected official and is elected by the voters of Meade County every four years.  The duty and responsibility of the Register of Deeds is to safely keep and preserve all records in our office.  We record all documents pertaining to the real estate in Meade County:

  • Deeds
  • Mortgages
  • Releases
  • Oil & Gas Documents
  • Assignments
  • Surveys
  • Plats
  • State and Federal Tax Lines
  • Military Discharges
  • Power of Attorneys
  • Articles of Incorporation
  • Cemetery Deeds

...just to name a few.  We also file Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings on personal property for the County.  Our records date back to 1884.  Also found in our office are rural school records that were once the property of the County Superintendent.  These records date from 1917 to 1946.

Once these documents are recorded they show correct ownership of the land in Meade County.  Our records are often accessed by abstractors, attorneys, financial institutions, oil & gas companies, real estate people, surveyors, and genealogists.

All of the documents recorded in this office are fee based set by Kansas State.
(Fee Schedule) This income is deposited into the county general fund and administered by the Board of County Commissioners.

A copy of each document is kept in the Register of Deeds office and microfilm copy is stored in the salt mines at Hutchinson, KS for safekeeping.
