Micro-loans are funded through the USDA. These funds were granted to local entities for the purpose of granting up to $10,000 to business entrepreneurs who meet a low-to-moderate income requirement. Because these funds are granted through the USDA, and administered through Great Plains Development, there are a few other requirements that must be met before a business becomes eligible for the loan.
Despite the name implying these funds are grants, they are not. These funds are utilized as "gap" financing. For example, if a bank is willing to loan you $25,000 to start your business but you need $30,000, RBEG can help provide that additional $5,000 to close the gap. Great Plains Development also has access to E-community loans through NetWork Kansas. These funds can be paired with other local financing options to help get your business started.
